Best Nitz Photography Image of 2011

The polls are open and we are at the very beginning stages of determining the best and most favorite image from 2011.

Voting will take place on our Facebook Business Page   -  Just visit, click the little red smiley and do your voting. I realize that this may leave a few of you out of the voting if you do not have a facebook account and for that I apologies. This is the easiest way to keep track of and publish the entries.

Only one vote per person so be sure to “send” or “share” the contest with friends and family.  Winning image will become our splash page image as well as our new business cards. But the best thing is that the winning image will be printed as a 16×20 Gallery Mount wall Portrait and given – yes GIVEN – to the family.

Happy and awake | {Jacksonville, FL newborn photographer}

OH Little Miss wide awake for my whole session. I think she was the most wide awake and alert newborn to date. What is with all these wide awake babies lately?  I’m so happy she was content to just look around though (provided we wrapped her up in something).  Just a beautiful little baby girl. You can see her before she arrived into the world here (aka – mom’s maternity session).

She did briefly close her eyes :)

Total Sweetness | {Jacksonville’s newborn photographer}

I just adored this little sweetheart!! She is so very teeny tiny in all her 5.5 pounds or so when she was born. She let us know about her dislike of the whole idea of being photographed at first but then she gave it up once she realized sleeping wasn’t such a bad idea after all. Then we really got to play! Got to use some new hats, new buckets, new blankets!!!  I was excited! I think the resulting images will speak for themselves.

And one with mommy – I love it!

Happy Birthday!! | {Jacksonville’s baby photographer}

One of my favorite little guys. I first met him when he was just about 4 months old (you can see that session here) when he joined The Little Things Baby Plan. Saw him again when he learned to sit up (you can see that one here) and now at his first birthday. So funny how much they grow but then still look the same too. Of course he’s walking all over now and telling us about things in his jibber-jabber. Just so precious.

Thank you mom and dad for sharing your little guy with me for his first year! I hope to help you capture many more years with him, his big brother and his new little brother too!

Plans and expectations | {Jacksonville Florida newborn photographer}

We all have plans and expectations about various things in our lives. We wake in the morning and we make plans for the day and we expect things to flow nicely from one thing to another. But then again don’t you have days where all your plans and expectations are just.. well… blown to bits? Could be for a variety of reasons from simple to complex and most times it’s completely out of your control.

Newborn sessions are just like that. For me and I know for many parents as well. You see these amazing images on the website and blog and you think “I want my baby in that pose/basket/prop/etc.”  You plan ahead and we chat at the beginning of a session about your plans and expectations for the session and then I say “Awesome. I understand you want x, y and z but before we get started just let me say…”  (I can see some heads nodding right now). And what is it that I say? I’ve never voiced it here on the blog or anywhere on the website so I thought it might be a good time since this sweetheart kind of blew our plans and expectations right out the window.

Every person is different. We all have different personalities. We all have different likes and dislikes. We are all capable of doing different things.  Newborns are the same way. Each little one is different in what he/she likes as far as posing in various positions. Each little one is different in their personality in how they tell us they like or dislike a pose. Some newborns are extremely calm and patient and others not so much. Some are much more limber and “squishy” than others too. Which is why some will allow me to pose them in various positions and others won’t. The most important thing I tell new parents when they have specific poses in mind is that of course we will try but if I feel any resistance from baby due to dislike, comfort or ability we won’t do it. I will never push a baby to do something that he/she doesn’t want to do or I feel would not be comfortable to them. Safety is always a priority as well – which is why there are certain poses and props that will only be used with a soundly sleeping baby (and a mom or dad within arms reach).

This little guy happens to be one of those little ones that was quite wide awake for his session. Didnt want much to do with sleeping but was somewhat content just hanging out and looking around for a while (as you can see).

Mom and I both had plans for this session with certain poses and props in mind; however, he had other plans and definately let us know what he liked and disliked. He was super adorable and he did drift off to sleep for a short period of time and let me pose him just a little.  In the end we did get some wonderful images of him even though they were not the ones we had in mind or planned for. Here is one of the poses we planned that we did capture.

We even got a little smile out of him with his blue bear hat that mom bought for him to wear for his session.

So remember when you are planning your newborn portrait session that things don’t always go as planned. But in the end we will always work hard to capture memorable images of your newest addition!

Big beautiful eyes | {Jacksonville’s newborn portrait photographer}

It always amazes me when these tiny little ones come in for their portrait session – Not only because babies are just truly miracles but because each and every one of them already has such a personality of his/her own. They know what they like and don’t like and they know exactly how to tell you that too. Some are just so laid back and content while others are a bit more feisty and how should we say it?  ”head strong” comes to mind :)   Some love to curl up in the fetal position and some like to lie with arms and legs as far from the body as they can get them. Just really makes me giggle sometimes.  This little guy was one that was a very light sleeper so it was challenging to get those sleepy shots. But he was quite content just being awake and looking around. Which resulted in this wonderful, wide-eyed capture.

He was also very particular about his feet:  Did NOT like them tucked under his body and really didn’t like me messing with them to pose him. Although with some perseverance mom and I were able to get some wonderful images of him sleeping. I did manage to get one with his little feet tucked under but after looking over the images I think I like this one better anyway. His little face is just so peaceful.

Little man had the most adorable little birth mark on his cheek – HAD to get a good shot of that and since I’m such a sucker for profile and semi-profile shots anyway I believe this particular image has made my list of favorites from his session.

Along with this favorite. Little Owl.

Sweet little family | {Jacksonville’s newborn and family photographer}

Such a sweet and adorable little family!!!  Although we had to work really hard to get this shot, our efforts were well worth it I think. Big sister was not having much to do with having her portrait taken with the family. Or with baby sister…

…but we did get one of her alone wish is super cute!

Baby sister wasn’t much for having her portrait either. She was quite the wide awake little one for most of our session and was not very happy with us either. During one of them times she was awake and content we captured this though… and I LOVE it.

Eventually I was able to get her to drift off to sleep for a short period of time. We took full advantage of those precious moments where she was sleeping contently and captured some wonderful images in my favorite fur and basket!!!  Of course had to put just a small little flower to girl it up a bit!

Happy Holidays!!!

I wanted to take a moment to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Holiday Season – no matter who you are, where you are or what holiday you celebrate this season know that you are all very special to me. My clients become my friends and I have loved watching your babies reach milestones, your children bloom and your families grow!

Please remember that the studio will be closed for sessions as well as portrait pick ups beginning Friday December 16 through the first of the year. If you have portraits still here at the studio that you have needed to pick up you will need to do so before Friday at 4PM.

But before I officially take off for the holiday season to spend this special time with my own family and friends I’d like to give away a portrait session as a gift! We will be doing so via the Facebook business page starting tomorrow morning… all you have to do is “like” the page and of course “like” the post/image when it happens and you will be entered. So be sure to tell friends and family to be on the lookout too!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

Mommy to be | {Jacksonville’s maternity photographer}

I ADORE shooting maternity images. It’s just so wonderful, magical and miraculous to me what the human body is capable of. To have a brand new mommy to be come in and share her unborn child with me is such an honor. I thoroughly enjoy watching the love in her eyes, the joy that overflows from her heart and just the fun anticipation of that new little life.

This sweet little momma to be came to visit me and OH what fun we had together. Unfortunaly daddy to be was unable to join us for this session but will be here for the newborn session come january. I cannot wait to meet this surprise little one (we don’t know boy or girl!!!) !!

Just a little peek from our session starting wtih this one that is just so fun. After I took this shot I showed it to mom from the back of the camera…

“see your little toes poking out down there?” I said??

“WOW…” she said, “I have not seen THOSE in a LONG time”   followed by a lot of giggles.

Precious sweet little girl | {Jacksonville’s baby photographer}

This little one decided to arrive in the world 6 weeks early – not only that but while mom and dad were out of town as well! What a story they have to tell when she gets older. She spent some time in the hospital and now has come to visit with me at 4 months old.  Isnt she just the most precious little thing?  I’m so glad she is doing so well!

She got tired rather quickly during our session and took a little catnap. Gave us the opportunity to capture this adorable image of her sleeping. Something rare to capture at this age.
